My son’s eczema started within a couple weeks after birth.
At 3 months old, I thought he was having a seizure and we ended up having an EEG done to rule it out. All because he was squirming so much from the itchiness. So, the pediatrician prescribed what he knew…topical steroids.
The doc said there’s no cure, but he may grow out of it. At my son’s one-year check-up, the doc was a little surprised we were still dealing with eczema and mentioned that dairy could possibly play a role in it.
So, out went dairy, and in came soy. Looking back, man was I a mess at all this!! By the time he was 4, we were using over a pound, yes, a POUND, of steroid cream a year.

No one told me he shouldn’t consistently use it. No one told me about steroid withdrawal. No one said it could get so bad that he couldn’t move without breaking his skin and bleeding.
I was FED UP and determined this was not going to be his life. So, I searched for answers. And found them in holistic practitioners that worked alongside my son and I through the journey.
We discovered that he had A LOT of allergies and sensitivities. Some that we could control and some that we couldn’t, but found ways to manage. We found ways to boost his immune system and gut. Now as he is about to embark on his teenage years, he bounces around the house, he sleeps through the night (something I never thought was going to happen), he video games, he talks to his friends, and he understands food and his triggers.

As we processed through all of his challenges and his growing schedule from activities and school, I was becoming drained. I realized I was trying to pour from an empty cup and it was creating a health crisis for me. I reached out to the same community for support. I then realized I had to make changes, too.

In both situations, while we have a fantastic community of practitioners, I realized I was struggling between appointments. Struggling to find the solutions on my own, struggling to stay on track with the recommendations. At an appointment with our Naturopath, a product was being recommended, but I asked to look at the full list of ingredients before agreeing to it. We found out there was an ingredient that was going to react for my son. The naturopath said I could do something with everything I've learned through all of this.
